PLAN THE COATING BEFORE THE MIX

Table top epoxy calculator

Estimate mixed epoxy for a flat rectangular or round top. Include repeated coats, vertical edges and a separate seal-coat allowance.

Calculate epoxy for a tabletop coating

Measure the flat area to coat, then choose the thickness of each top coat. This is a geometric estimate of mixed resin + hardener, not a universal product coverage rate. Rectangle area = length × width. Round top area = π × (diameter ÷ 2)².

Top volume = area × thickness × number of coats. Metric length and width are entered in cm; coating thickness is entered in mm and divided by ten to convert to cm. In US mode, dimensions and coating thickness use inches. Every counted coat uses the same entered thickness.

ONE FLAT TOP COAT

120 × 60 cm at 3 mm = 2.16 L

A 3 mm thickness is 0.3 cm. The volume is 120 × 60 × 0.3 = 2,160 mL. With a chosen 10% allowance, plan 2.376 L total mixed epoxy. At a product-specified 1:1 by volume, that is 1.188 L Part A plus 1.188 L Part B. This example excludes edges and a seal coat; 3 mm is not a product recommendation.

Account for edges and a seal coat separately

Switch on vertical edge coating to estimate perimeter × edge height × edge coating thickness. The tool includes all outside edges for every counted coat. This is a thin, uniform film approximation; it does not model rounded corners, runoff, underside drips or absorption.

The separate seal-coat allowance is an amount you supply for the whole project, using product coverage instructions or your own reliable experience. It is added once and is not multiplied by the top-coat count. The tool does not assume that a seal coat uses the flood-coat thickness.

TWO COATS WITH EDGES

Top coats + edge coats + seal allowance

For a 120 × 60 cm top with two 3 mm coats, the top needs 4,320 mL. The 360 cm perimeter, coated over 2 cm height at 1 mm thickness, adds 72 mL per coat, or 144 mL for two coats. Add an entered 200 mL seal allowance: 4,664 mL before extra, or 5,130.4 mL with 10% extra.

US example: a 48 × 24 inch top

At an entered 1/8 inch thickness, one top coat has a volume of 144 cubic inches: about 79.79 US fluid ounces, or 0.6234 US liquid gallons, before edges, a seal coat or extra material. Weight ounces are a different measurement; this tool does not convert epoxy volume into weight.

How much epoxy covers a square foot?

Coverage depends on thickness and the product. As pure geometry, one US liquid gallon spread at 1/8 inch thickness covers about 12.83 square feet before absorption, runoff or waste. Actual manufacturer coverage may be lower and can include different application assumptions. Use your exact product instructions to choose the thickness and prepare the substrate.

Coating thickness is not casting depth

Some products require a seal coat on porous wood and limit each flood coat’s thickness. Check the current coating instructions rather than adopting a casting-depth limit. For filling a river or casting cavity, use the deep pour epoxy calculator.
